The days are flitting by. I am working on a tote made from a pack of Moda nickels. I think it is going to be pretty. I have to quilt the outside and make the lining yet. It is due to be finished by the 30th so wish me luck. I will show you all a pix as soon as I am done.
I use to watch my mother make quilts way back in the 40's and 50's and she would let me hand sew on them. I also learned to use the old treadle machine and made a couple of dresses for myself and sisters. We lived on a large farme in a house built in the 1800's and I learned to pick cotton at an early age. We also farmed an allottment of tobacco. We moved to the city when I was 16 and in the 12th grade. I always sewed for my kids but never quite got back to quilting. I did save 4" squares from all their fabrics. I made a memory quilt as my kids say from that and next I made a jean quilt using the apple core pattern. Didn't know it was hard. I tied both these quilts. My 3rd quilt I started in 1996 and it is still sitting in the frame half hand quilted. I have since learned that it is much easier to use the machine. At first I sent them out but now do my own. I joined ebay groups in 2003 and have learned ever so much since then. I love making the tops and have 61 UFO's presently plus over a dozen quilts finished and ever so much fabric. This year I swear I am going to make my 5 sisters and brothers a quilt as all my kids now have several. Maybe I will give you some more history another day. Whoa this is a long post. Hope someone reads it and shares their experience with me.
